Thoughts as I roll through the Galaxy

Thoughts of a Military Child

(you can find the five seperate stories of this “series” listed in Pages along the right side of this page)

Since I love writing children’s stories, it was only fitting that I write some about the military. I spent years watching my own children deal with their dad going out to sea, having duty days, and so on. So, these stories came to life. The first one, ‘Tomorrow Is a Big Day’ was roughly 20 paragraphs, and I let my kids “illustrate” the story for me (each paragraph got its own page, & they had to draw what they would do with that part of the story). From there, the ideas just took off.

Eventually, I found out about a magazine written BY the military spouse, FOR the military spouse (Validity) and I knew I just had to get my idea to them – what a fit! In their premiere issue, my story, ‘Is It Really Christmas’, not only made it into the magazine, it made it onto the cover! I was so excited!! I was now a freelance writer for them, contracted to write pretty much my own column. I had stories written for the next 3 issues. Unfortunately, Validity lost funding, was then bought-out and eventually ended.

While the magazine didn’t last long, my family has always loved the stories, so I continue to share them whenever I can.  They are fun, relative, and interactive.  I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
