Thoughts as I roll through the Galaxy

The Sad Sun & the Sea

The Sad Sun and the Sea

Let me tell you a tale
Of a small group of friends
And just how they came to be.
About how they helped
All working together,
And in a way joined the sun and the sea

I’ll begin with just two
Who were already friends
And a rather unlikely pair
Sebastian the Squirrel
And Sylvia Skunk
Who wears pink ribbons in her hair

They started one day
With a walk in the woods
Acting silly and singing a song
When they noticed the sun
Looking sad in the sky
And they wondered just what could be wrong

As they stood in their spot
Really wanting to help
Trying to think of something to do
They heard a small chirp
And looked up above
It was Sam Sparrow whistling a tune.

They quickly decided
To ask for his help
To see why the sun was so sad
He flew down to the ground
While he hurriedly chirped
Telling them he would surely be glad.

In no time at all
Sam flew right away
To the sun way up in the sky
And when he asked her
What it was that was wrong
She just sighed and gave this reply

“It’s the silliest thing”
The sun said to him
“How I just love the sea and the shore.
But, you see, I’m too big
And I’m too far away
To splash and to really explore.”

Then Sam got an idea
A most wonderful thought
Of how the sun could still get to play.
He would talk to a friend
Who could get boats to race
And the sun could then watch them all day.

The Sun loved the idea
And Sam was then off
To talk to his friend at the sea
Sally Seal was great help
As she quickly swam off
Making sure that the sailors were free.

The sailors said “Sure!
We’ll help the sun!
And we’ll get even more ships to race!”
Then in no time at all
There were all types of boats,
And a smile spread across the Sun’s face.

There were so many ships
Of all different types
And they bounced and they splashed all day long
The sailboats were so small
The great ships so big
And having fun they could do nothing wrong.

All the friends stood nearby
On the shoreline and watched
As everyone had so much fun.
Then Sylvia Skunk
Looked up to the sky
And said “I wonder…how is the Sun?”

Quickly Sam flew back up
Asking how she now felt
And she gave him a very big grin
Saying “Thank you, Sparrow
For thinking of me
I can’t even think of where to begin.”

“Even though I can’t play
In the sand and the sea
Watching them has been the very best time.
Dear friend, once again
You and your friends I do thank.”
To which Sam replied, “The pleasure was mine.”

“For when you are happy
You make the world shine
With each cheery smile that you make.
So if ever you’re sad
You just whistle for us
And we’ll do whatever it takes.”

With that, Sam returned
To his friends on the shore
Who were feasting on a picnic of ham
And from helping the Sun
They themselves became friends
Sebastian, Sylvia, Sally and Sam
